The Fund Forum on June 27-29 held a presentation on the upcoming Tashkent International Festival of Contemporary Cinema set to take place October 19-25. The presentation took place as part of the 33rd Moscow International Film Festival at Moscow Business Square at Radisson SAS Slavyanskaya Hotel.

Young talented Uzbek pianist Lola Rasulova, who has netted numerous awards and drawn clamorous applause locally and internationally, will play a recital on June 30 at 7 pm at Uspensky Music School in Tashkent. Organized by the Fund Forum and Uspensky Music School, the concert will be an opportunity to enjoy Rasulova’s rendition of classical pieces.

The Chinese city of Karamay (Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region) on June 25 hosted a presentation on Uzbekistan’s investment climate, prospects for attracting foreign investment, tourism potential and the Fund Forum, which oversees activities in this area through projects to attract tourists, specialists and experts.

Two talented artists shared their impressions of their participation in major international cultural events at a reception on June 24 at the Center of National Arts. Young artist Sarvar Sulaimonov attended the 2nd International Symposium in the Turkish city of Konya, famous for its historical sites, while Alexander Nikolayev came away with lasting impressions of his trip to the 54th Venice Biennale in Italy, where he presented a series of art projects. Those gathered were shown photos and video materials made by the two artists during their trips.

On July 6 the Japanese Garden in Tashkent will host the fourth “In the Name of Childhood” Charity Ball, an annual major fundraiser to benefit children in orphanages. Set to start at 5 pm, the Charity Ball, as in previous years, will include game stations such as “Hipsters”, “I can sing”, “Disco dancer” and “I'm a conjurer”. In addition to the contests, the Ball will include a traditional charity auction and a concert.

The Fund Forum on June 15 participated in the 26th annual World Trade Day, a major international trade conference held at Bryant University in Rhode Island, USA. The event was attended by around 500 executives, managers, top policy experts, academicians, business leaders, and government officials. Presented by the Chafee Center for International Business at Bryant University, World Trade Day has as its goal to help businesses to reach beyond geographical and intellectual boundaries, develop new strategies and build alliances with overseas partners.

The Center of National Arts welcomes the public to attend the solo exhibition of young Uzbek artist Dilshod Eshmatov, a member of IJOD Association of Artists, Art Historians and Craftsmen and a winner of “Navqiron O’zbekiston” (Young Uzbekistan) Festival of Traditional and Contemporary Arts. On display are 90 works by the artist. Organized by the Fund Forum and IJOD Association, the exhibition will run through July 15.

Preparations are in full swing for the first Tashkent International Festival of Contemporary Cinema to be held in October 2011. Overseen by the Fund Forum with support from Uzbekkino National Agency, the Festival has been given the slogan Civilizations of the 21st Century: Dialogue of Cultures. One of the stages in preparations for the festival has been the short film contest The Beginning, which was rounded up on June 15 at a press conference in Tashkent.

On June 30, French guitar virtuoso Jean-Philippe Bruttman will perform at Tashkent’s Youth Creativity Palace along with a group of musicians and flamenco dancers in what promises to be a passion-filled concert, another in the series of events overseen by the French Institute and the Fund Forum.

On May 26, Zubaida Hamidova, one of the participants of “Campaign 14”, a fundraising auction to support women with breast cancer held as part of “Style.Uz” Art Week last year, has returned to Uzbekistan after a successful treatment for breast cancer in Israel. Hamidova spent 10 days in Haifa and Jerusalem where she underwent chemotherapy and radiotherapy procedures and a surgery. The project was organized by “In the Name of Life” National Breast Cancer Association and the Women’s Council with support from Tashkent’s Andromed&Horev Clinic and Israel’s Horev Clinic.
