A series of charitable events have been held in Andijan and Jizzakh for families in need of social support and children in orphanages. The events have been organized by the Fund Forum, the Women’s Council, Mehr nuri Public Foundation and the Social Initiatives Support Fund.

As many as 400 people attended the AIDS campaign held at the Youth Creativity Palace on December 1, World AIDS Day. The campaign agenda included speeches by representatives of governmental, international and public organizations as well as an exhibition offering photos and information materials by organizations working to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS, a demonstration of videos dedicated to HIV/AIDS issues and a concert featuring Uzbek pop stars.

The Fund Forum and the Social Initiatives Support Fund were awarded certificates for supporting Special Olympics athletes in Uzbekistan. The certificates were presented by Denis M. Doolan, the President and Managing Director of Special Olympics Europe/Eurasia at a conference timed to coincide with the 10th anniversary of Special Olympics Uzbekistan.

Tashkent’s Uspensky Music School played host to “Music Against AIDS”, a concert performed by a group of students from the School, winners of national and international competitions and Yangi avlod Children’s Art Festival. Held on November 29, on the eve of World AIDS Day, the concert was organized by the Ministry of Public Education of Uzbekistan with support from the Fund Forum.

Zsuzsanna Jakab, the director of WHO Regional Office for Europe, highly rated the activities of the Fund Forum and Mehr nuri (Ray of mercy) Public Foundation at a recent international symposium titled “National model of maternal and child health care in Uzbekistan: “Healthy mother – healthy child” in Tashkent.

On November 25-26 Tashkent hosted an international symposium titled “National model of maternal and child health care in Uzbekistan: Healthy mother – healthy child”, organized by the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan, the WHO and the UNFPA with the Women’s Council, “In the Name of Life” National Breast Cancer Association, Mehr nuri Foundation and the SISF as organizing partners. The event bought together heads and representatives of major international organizations, heads of health ministries of roughly 40 countries as well as scientists, doctors and experts.

On December 10, classical opera fans in Tashkent will have the opportunity to attend a concert to be performed by a group of artists from Moscow’s Bolshoi Theater and St. Petersburg’s Mariinsky Theater. The concert will take place at Turkiston Palace and will feature the Symphonic Orchestra of the Music and Theater Studio of the State Conservatory of Uzbekistan. Up to 50% of tickets will be distributed free of charge among young talented people in Uzbekistan.

The 9th “Bazar-Art. Fall 2011” exhibition-fair is set to start on November 17 at 12 a.m. at Tashkent’s Center of National Arts. Scheduled for November 17-19, the exhibition will be welcoming art enthusiasts and fans of Uzbek artisans’ creations. The event will be a showcase of exquisite artistic items created by craftsmen and craftswomen from all parts of Uzbekistan as well as an opportunity to purchase beautifully handcrafted mementos.

In late October 2011, New York's Metropolitan Museum, a world renowned cultural institution and collection, reopened refurbished galleries showcasing the art and architecture of the Islamic world. On display at the 15 galleries are exhibits from the Middle East, North Africa as well as South and Central Asia. To honor the event the Fund Forum donated unique books “Samples of eastern calligraphy and miniature art” and “Civilizations, States and Cultures of Central Asia” to the museum’s Islamic art department.

Cultural frenzy reigned in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, as Style.Uz Art Week 2011 was in full swing on October 23-28, 2011. The 6 days offered a diverse and colorful menu of fashion shows, exhibitions, competitions, workshops and concerts by prominent singers, thereby adding another exciting and memorable page to the cultural chronicles of Uzbekistan. A brainchild of Gulnara Karimova, Art Week has been given the goal of contributing to international cultural exchange and supporting the creative endeavors of young talents.
