Media Forum Yoshlar parvozi wraps up

Yoshlar parvozi (Flight of the youth) Youth Media Forum was held in Tashkent on January 31 – February 2. The media forum focused on the activities of youth media projects in Uzbekistan, their effectiveness, problems and prospects. The event was organized by The Fund Forum, Kelajak ovozi Youth Initiatives Center, the Nongovernmental Print Media and News Agencies Support Fund, and the Creative Union of Journalists.

The forum brought together roughly 200 young journalists from Tashkent and regions who participate actively in the media, print and Internet-projects of the Fund Forum, National Association of Electronic Mass Media (NAEMM), and other organizations. During the three-day event the participants attended a series of intensive master classes, discussed the quality of programs and materials, developed new television, print and Internet-projects. The best participants were awarded Yoshlar parvozi Prize.

The media forum also summed up the results of the grant program of Fund Forum and the Nongovernmental Print Media and News Agencies Support Fund. The best journalists and editorial offices that took an active part in the project were handed awards by Gulnara Karimova, the Chairperson of the Fund Forum’s Board of Trustees. In addition, eight publishing houses were awarded grants for 2010.

Another notable upshot of the forum has been the establishment of a Youth Media Council which has been given the goal of improving the quality of youth broadcasts and other media materials across the country. The Council is composed of heads, experts and young journalists of the NAEMM, National TV and Radio Company, the Fund Forum, Kelajak ovozi Youth Initiative Center, Nongovernmental Print Media and News Agencies Support Fund, regional press centers and Kelajak ovozi youth studios.
