The Institute of Hospitality and Tourism at the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia hosted a presentation on Uzbekistan’s tourism potential. Organized by the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Russia with support from the Fund Forum, the presentation was attended by representatives of travel companies, the academic and business communities as well as students and teaching staff of the Institute.
The presentation included a photo exhibition which gave visitors an opportunity to view picturesque landscapes, ancient cities, unique architectural monuments and major tourist sites in Uzbekistan and learn about the country’s contemporary development. Applied art items that were showcased as part of the exhibition, revealing Uzbek people’s culture and traditions, amounted to one of the highlights of the event.
Various informational and presentation materials, publications and brochures outlining Uzbek tourism potential were distributed among those participating in the presentation.
Yelena Shlinyova, a specialist at the international cooperation bureau of the Federal Agency for Tourism of Russia:
- “Speaking of the development of Russian-Uzbek cooperation in tourism, I should say that Russians continue to travel to Uzbekistan with tremendous pleasure. Travel routes to famous historical Uzbek cities such as Khiva, Bukhara and Samarkand are particularly popular with tourists. Today’s event has been a very impressive one as it is an opportunity not only for the guests but also for students and teachers to get to know about and see a bit of this ancient civilization. Uzbekistan is one of the few countries that have retained their history, culture, traditions and national peculiarities. It’s a country that hasn’t been impacted by the negative influence of globalization.”
Natalya Sedova, director of Moscow College of Hospitality “Tsaritsyno”:
- “Today we were pleasantly surprised by and happy with the opportunity to get to know about this amazing photo exhibition which talks about ancient cities such as Bukhara, Samarkand, Khiva, Shahrisabz and Tashkent as well as stunning applied art creations representing your culture. I haven’t had a chance to travel to Uzbekistan and the splendor of this country. But having seen the exhibition I can tell you I’m at a loss for words to describe my impressions of Uzbekistan. I’m simply charmed by the unique atmosphere and architecture which have been perfectly presented during this event. And I am hopeful that one day we and our students will have a chance to visit these amazing cities and get firsthand experience of Uzbek culture and traditions.”
Olga Kruglyak, personnel manager at Swissotel Krasniye Holmy:
- “The presentation of Uzbekistan’s tourism potential with a photo and applied art exhibition has been a very interesting experience and they make you want to travel to Uzbekistan. It’s noteworthy that all the photos and exhibits are unusual and reflect real life. This was a chance for me to see beautiful scenery, and historical and modern architecture in your country and to learn about Uzbek nation’s traditions. Regrettably, I still haven’t been able to visit Uzbekistan although I have traveled extensively in Europe and America. And this exhibition tells me that Uzbekistan is a must-visit destination!”
