December 5, 2009

The colourful Bazar-Art Exhibition-Fair, which opened on 3 December amidst the sounds of karnai and surnai national instruments, has recently included an event to honour its winners. The awards ceremony started with Charkhpalak (Watermill) colourful show.
The exhibition featured the entire diversity of traditional and applied arts: embossed items, felt items, jewellery, miniature, wood carving, ceramics, textile, carpet making, suzane and national costumes.
Masters from across Uzbekistan, both experienced and new ones, participate in the cultural project twice a year. This is an opportunity for them to showcase their mastery to the public, learn of new trends, contribute to the preservation of traditions, exchange experience, and set up collaboration. Visitors to the event can buy items and this attracts an increasing number of people interested in national applied art year after year.
Charkhpalak (Watermill) Show of Ethnographical Costume was held on December 4 on the Grand Scene of the Center of National Arts. The students of Choreography and National Dance High School under the leadership of Guli Khamraeva, who was given a special Bazar-Art diploma, performed an unforgettable dance show on traditions of Uzbek people’s wedding ceremony. The show impressed the guests and participants of the event.
The show was followed by an awards ceremony to honour the laureates of Bazar-Art 2009 project. They were gifted with diplomas, valuable prizes and presents. Winners are:
Master of Traditional Textile – Mansur Mirzakhanov
Master of Traditional Embroidery – Madina Kasymbayeva
Master of Ceramics – Alisher Nozirov
Preservation of Traditions in Contemporary Images – Mansur Khuryazov
Viewers` sympathy prize – Petr Annenkov
Special prize for 5th time “Bazar-Art” participation – Kubaro Babayeva
This Bazar-Art was characterised by a pre-New Year atmosphere. Many seemed to be in a rush to buy presents for the upcoming holidays. Indeed, discovering an exquisite jewellery item or a hand-made silk scarf with intricate patterns has always been a pleasure.
